I attempted this game twice - The first time I failed to save 47 lives, whereas the second time there was only six casualties. The game enables you to improve by displaying key facts such as effects of sand dunes on tsunami. These facts are not only educational, but give hints as to how to improve your outcome.
Some hints I have learned:
~ Properties can be reinforced and have their foundations raised. I was not aware that by clicking on properties you could do this. It makes a big difference!
~ By placing a Seismic Warning system, you have the option to tell civilians to evacuate a few minutes before the disaster happens. You need to click the evacuate button though... when it started flashing, I had no idea what to do!
~ Placing natural barriers like sand dunes will lessen the tsunami's destructive power.
~ Using the School or Community Centre, you can train the civilians in evacuation and disaster knowledge. This also lessons the damage toll at the end of the scenario.
Give the game a try, it is quite challenging, teaches you lots of facts about these scenarios and is very engaging. Students will definitely enjoy this medium of disaster education!
